And Suddenly I Was $4.5 Million In Debt.

In less than a year, each of my 12 offices was LOSING $20,000 a month. I tried desperately to sell off the offices... to find some kind of relief... but it just didn't happen.

One time I thought I sold the company. I wasn't expecting a lot of money for it, obviously - but I thought I could at least be even. A bunch of investors at a bank had been wanting my company for a long time, and we started negotiations. They told me to come in for one final meeting where we'd "cross the t's and dot the i's" and they'd buy the business.

When I got to the meeting, I knew everyone there except for one person. He was new on their team... had only been working with them for a month or so. Everyone was in jovial spirits, and we were all joking around. I felt such a sense of relief... knowing that at least the debt would soon be over. Sure, I'd still have to start all over... but at least I'd have a blank slate.

Just when we were about to sign the papers, the man I didn't know spoke up. He said, "I do see a problem and we will not be proceeding with this." He slammed his files shut and walked out the door.

I felt like I was sucker-punched. Literally, it was as if the air had been deflated right out of me. You could've heard crickets chirp in the room. Nobody - especially the rest of the guys at the table - had any idea that was coming.

And in that one sentence, I lost it all. In the span of a few months, not only did I lose 12 offices... Each one costing me circa $20,000 a month in losses ... but I also lost my clean slate.

It was the most dark and dismal period of my life.
